Developing Knowledge and Understanding of the World


This half day course is suitable for anyone wishing to develop and deepen children’s thinking skills, their thoughts and learning through an enquiry based approach to learning.

Enquiry based learning draws upon research and practice developed in international contexts that holds aims for children to be active in the process of learning. Participants will explore questions that foster enquiry. They will examine concepts and methods to challenge and extend children’s thinking and consider how children use materials to construct and communicate their learning to and with others within a cycle of enquiry.

  • Understand how educators can ask questions that foster scientific enquiry.
  • Examine scientific concepts in relation to case studies to challenge children’s thinking.
  • Consider how young children use materials to construct and communicate thinking in a cycle of enquiry.
